There is no greater thrill than to enjoy a glass of fine wine on a spring morning beside a stream.
Please tell me you have tried this dear reader?  If you stare at these words with a blank mind,
then put down this book right now and off you go (the spring morning is not important, just find a
stream and lie down beside it with your favourite drink).

Now that you're back, we can go on with the story.  I do apologize for holding up those who had
already had this experience.  Now where was I, oh yes that's right, I was lying down beside a
stream, my favourite wine in my hand, my skirt trailing just a little in the lovely cool stream and the
lovely warm spring sunlight helping my dreams along.  I can't remember what I was dreaming
about now, probably a strong, handsome man telling me how beautiful I am and how he cannot
resist me, but I'm not really sure whether that furthers the story or not.  Caught in wonderfully
romantic dreams as I was, it took me a little while to notice the splashing.  Mr Charming may
have just been about to ask me to go to France with him to propose to me at the top of the Eiffel
Tower, but instead reality took my mind away and I leant over to see what was causing the
commotion.  It was a pitiful site, with the little creature fighting to keep its head above water and
clinging desperately to a reed to keep from being swept down the stream.  I decided to use my
hat as a net and scooped the little creature up, along with a pile of water that streamed from the
bottom of the hat.  I gently picked the little thing out of my soaked hat and lay it on the grass in the
sun.  It raised its little head and looked at me, as if to say thanks and then collapsed out of
exhaustion.  This was the point at which I looked at the pathetic little thing and realised I'd never
seen anything like it before.  It was a colour green that would have blended in well with the grass,
were it not soaking wet.  It had four long arms, with tiny little hands that each had three fingers and
a thumb.  It had tiny leaves growing across its torso, which had two little legs, extending down to
feet with four toes on each.  Its head had leaves growing across the top of it, almost like a head
of hair and its face had miniature human features.  Its ears were the strangest though; they were
the size of half its entire body and had leaves growing in swirly patterns all over them.

I just sat under my tree sipping my wine as the little creature lay there.  My thoughts roamed
around through forests of wonderings “What was the little creature I had saved?”  “How did it get
in the stream?”  “I wonder what it uses those huge ears for?”  My glass of wine was long finished
when the little creature stirred and opened its yellow eyes.  It pulled itself up with its arms, and its
eyes darted around its surroundings, until they came to rest on me.  I think I saw realization dawn
in them and in just a couple of seconds it had sprung onto my lap and was looking up at me.  I
didn’t know what to do, so I said ‘Hello’ slowly and made my face into what I hoped was kind.  It
put its hand up in what I assumed to be a stop sign, and in one bound, I couldn’t see it anymore.  I
waited for a little while, listening to the birds and watching the wind play in the trees and then
decided it wasn’t coming back.  Just as I rose to head back home, a flash of green sprung onto
my shoulder.  I couldn’t really see it properly from that angle, so I put my hand up and it jumped
on.  I think I saw it smile before it placed a small green stone on my palm and was gone.

If you bumped into me in the street or even stumbled across my sanctuary where I met my little
green friend, you’d find me wearing that little green stone around my neck.  I like to think it brings
me good luck.
