"Departure"
Written by Injected Misery

A whisper in the night, with orange wings in the wind
A toe upon the railing, with these arms which have sinned
Water out before her, lolling upon the steps
A spider by her hand, and her legs have leapt
A bat fluttering in the air with leather wings to and fro
But takes away this lonely girl, and flies up her soul
Departure is her entity, a way for her to leave
But silence is her enemy, and the moon’s light she weaves
Away she floats in the night up to her peaceful sleep
Away with the flock of birds, and she no longer weeps
"Departure"
Written by Travis (Depredation)

The motherly light of the moon fell from the heavens above in soft beams that grace the pale skin of the
woman’s body. Her dress was a black of the softest silk and it clung to her chest as if afraid to part with its
deathly cold. The length of it danced loosely in the cool autumn breeze and played about her feet in the
most alluring of ways. She was beautiful, no man would ever doubt this but to look up on her was to invite
death, for the eternal sleep of her awaiting arms was not but a step behind this lady of the night. A lady of
darkness and yet she called to all that would listen to her silent cry, a cry not of pain, but of freedom. It
sang its sweet melody though that of emotion, the careful caress of a lover’s farewell upon the cheek, her
touch. The slow rocking of the trees in an evening wind, her voice. Barely a brush of air was bleed into her
poised form, the final breath of a dieing past. The length of her tangled hair, nearly as dark as the silk with
which she adorned her body, swayed slowly, now given life with the kiss of wind’s goodbye. Skin traced in
part upon her legs with symbols of thorns, scars of a buried past and reminders of a future yet to unfold.
She takes a belated step forward upon the railing and the flash of color is born, wings extended from her
back in their blood red brilliance. It was a match for the fire of her crimson nails as her arms reach to the
heavens above.

A single strand of delicate thread falls from her palm to the awaiting earth below. There, held suspended
within the air was her beloved pet, the eight legs of an arachnid readied to sway freely with her body as
she took to flight. She and that creature were not so different, both fed by primal desires, a thirst, a
hunger deeper than could be explained away with simple words.

Far in the distance, the ringing of the midnight bell tolls its hour. It is her time, this is her world now. A life in
darkness but one of peace. Now was the time, the time to fly…….forever, a Departure from innocence.
"Departure"

Into the hills of gold,
Do my victims flow.
But I wonder,
Where will I go?

My mind is but a gospel,
Of sweet singers,
Who will never sing again.
Yearning for the sun’s mellow touch,
One craving that will not soon end.

Wanting something I cannot get,
And if I did I would soon forget.
My mind is full of heinous regret,
Of that man I wish I had never met.

Mirrors of nothing,
And everything but me,
This image will never let my soul be free.
With every desperate attempt to die,
My torment seems to intensify.

Dawn arises,
I will be no more.
For the life I have lived,
What was worth fighting for?

Lonely would be the perfect word to describe my way of life.
Everyday I would wake up and go about my business with no purpose other than to exist.
Until I met Him.
I had seen him wandering around the local grocery store where I worked for about two weeks.
He had white blond hair that seemed to reflect the fluorescent lights from the store. I noticed that he only
came between the hours of nine and eleven. A strange time to shop, I suppose.
The first time he had ever spoken to me was during one of his first visits, when he asked where he could
find some Tupperware bowls. I pointed him in the right direction and never spoke to him again until that
fateful night.
“Excuse me,” said a voice so smooth and captivating I stopped dead in my tracks. I looked up and saw a
man standing on the sidewalk in front of me, obstructing the way to my apartment. His hands were in the
pockets of his dark black trousers and every few seconds he would shift from one leg to other, rocking back
and forth in a mesmerizing rhythm that made my mind blur momentarily.
“Could I interest you in a stroll around the city?”
I stared at him for a few minutes before nodding my head and falling into step next to him.

We talked about many things. He was definitely an educated man. I felt a small flicker of what I assumed to
be attraction down near my stomach. Although I might have been mistaken, seeing as my last relationship
ended close to six years ago. We walked around for a few more minutes before we came to a beautiful
bridge over looking a wide river. A sole streetlight on the opposite end was the only source of light for
blocks.
He leaned against the railing while I pulled my hood over my head and my jacket tighter around my body,
trying to escape the wind that had just picked up.
He inhaled deeply before speaking.
“It’s a beautiful night,” he said, acting like he was not speaking to anyone in particular.
My teeth started chattering as I looked up at the overcast smog filled sky. Yeah, beautiful. Right…
“And you are a beautiful speci- I mean, woman. You are a woman.”
I turned abruptly to look at him before chuckling slightly. “Well spotted,” I retorted.
He didn’t smile, but pushed off the railing so he was standing upright. With my trembling jaw, I looked up and
took a small step back as his tall frame was towering over me. The wind gusted and blew my hood off my
head.
“I have been observing you since I arrived here,” he said, taking a small step to close the space that I had
just created.

I shivered as the wind gusted again and blew my hair entirely in my face. I reached up to brush it back and
just as my hand cleared my face, his lips were upon mine, hungrily pulling, tugging, kissing. I sat there for a
moment, not knowing what to do. He apparently sensed it and pulled away.

He took a step back and smoothed his white blond hair back into place while I stood there with my mouth
gaping like an idiot.
“Pardon me,” he said, beginning that nervous shifting again. “I guess I got a little carried away.”
I closed my mouth and the space between us in a matter of seconds and grabbed the back of his head and
pulled his lips down to mine again. It was such a wonderful sensation, I never wanted it to stop.
Sensing my eagerness, his hands quickly began to roam and found my butt. I moaned slightly into his
mouth and gasped when his mouth suddenly dropped to my neck.

He bit me once. A twinge of pain shot through my body my eyes closing convulsively. When I opened them,
he was gone.
I shivered and shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.
I walked the rest of the way home in silence, pondering what it was that I may have done wrong.

I didn’t sleep at all that night. My body was heaving with pain. It felt as though my very own cells were
changing, morphing into something new… abnormal.

When I finally rose the next morning, I discovered that my house was very dark, but I seemed to be very
content in that aspect. I also was hungry. So very hungry, although my mind did not know what for. I
reached the bathroom, turned on the light and immediately turned it back off for the sight of the fluorescent
bulb nearly blinded me.
My eyes adjusted and grew wide when I saw my reflection.
My skin was so pale I could almost see right through it, and on it were markings that I had never seen
before. My eyes had turned dark and glassy when just yesterday they were a warm, brown color. They my
gaze fell upon my neck. I gasped when I saw them, gleaming gently in the almost blacked bathroom.

I waited until sunset before I ran to the bridge.

He was there, waiting for me.

His eyes met mine before falling over my body. I had acquired a new taste in clothing that day, and had
created a simple black dress with deep orange accents. The collar of the outfit flared out into nicely pointed
edges in that wonder orange color, as were my nails. I had a long trench coat over it, hiding anything that
might be offending to others, but as soon as I saw Him, I took it off. The wind caught it and it sailed over the
edge of the bridge and into the dark water below.

We stared at each other for a few more moments when suddenly it felt as though something was trying to
claw its way out of my back. But the feeling only lasted a few seconds and when I turned around, there were
beautifully crafted wings carefully poised and ready to take flight. I smirked and looked back at Him. His
wings had too sprouted.

We flew to a small island at the bottom of the bridge where I was introduced as His Queen. It was then that I
received Semiazas, the large arachnid that was to be my pet. I stroked the creature fondly and it purred
before scurrying up my arm and seeking rest in the wild mess that was my hair.

I turned, and without anyone saying a word, I knew of what was to come.

The time of the hunt was upon us.
