"Dad's Chair"
written by Nikki

The dawn blessed the horizon as it so often did, a soft inkling of orange and red, a blending of light and
shadow; my favorite hour. A small amount of dew still lingered on the grass before the sun would come
and burn it away. Moisture hung within the air, which was thick and crisp with freshness. You could breath
deeply, and taste the world coming to life around you. Scenes of childhood's fondest hours replayed
themselves within my mind, and brought with them a fond smile, perhaps even a mist in my eyes.

It was not so long ago that there was a knight within shining armor that would come to save me, as if I
were that damsel in distress. Even now I still believe that there is a pot of gold at the end of each rainbow,
and that if I wish on a falling star... it just might come true. Memories are oftentimes a small gift from a
world that has passed us, leaving us with whispers that we recall at the oddest moments. Sometimes they
warm our hearts with their blessings, other times they bring a sigh of regret, of choices that have passed
us, leaving only those whispers.

To cherish each moment is something so often taken for granted as life rushes by us. Yet, we remember
those moments, even if they were tasted with the haste of life. The first smile of our children, their first
step... the way their laughter fills a room, a hug that was given when needed the most, or a kind word
when you thought kindness was gone from this world; all these things, and so many more, combine to
make us the people that we have become. Looking back, we so often wonder where all the time has
gone, and how it slipped so quickly away while we weren't looking. Hold on to each moment. Cherish each
day. Live every moment. Love whenever you are allowed to do so, so that when you look back...
it will be more than just a whispered memory.
